This carved shell cameo from the early 1900's is in mint condition. The portrait is of a gentle Bacchante Maiden, a follower of the God Bacchus (Dionysus) - The God of Wine and Plenty. The carving is in very fine detail. The cameo is set in a 14k yellow gold filagree mounting that is mint in every way. The cameo can be worn as a pin or a pendant. The size is slightly under 2 inches from top to bottom, and one and one half inches wide. This is a beautiful Christmas gift waiting for the right buyer.
Sisters Shell Cameo Ring 14 kt Gold - Size 6 1/2 - Item No. CRNG010
A very unique cameo ring. Two size matched cameos, prong set side by side, facing each other. Each cameo is of a female portrait, nicely detailed and each slightly different from the other in both facial features and hair style. The setting is also uniquely done, with a flat surface on the top of the shank and then a nice curve completely the way around. The ring setting is marked "14K". The shell cameos are set nicely above the ring shank - to sit very comfortably on the finger. The ring looks very pretty on and enhances the even a short finger. Perfect as a gift between sisters or for your favorite Gemini.
Elegant Bacchante Maiden - Large Older Shell Cameo - Item No. UNC004
This is a beautiful unset piece. The subject is a Bacchante Maiden (also known as a Maenads). She is very special since she shows all the ancient symbolism of these fine ladies as found in mythology. The beautiful woman's profile is complete with grapes and grape leaves in her hair, and the staff she is holding is called a thyrsos, which is a staff that is crowned with ivy. One of the most fascinating aspects of this piece is over her left shoulder. There you can see a leopard. The leopard in this carving is carved such that there is actually two different leopards depending upon how you look at her. The Bacchante Maidens are followers of Bacchus, the god of wine and plenty. They were common themes for cameos in ancient times - but given the fine detail of this cameo, it is a great example of one. The carving has very nice detail and hand craftsmanship which extends out to the edges, and the shell coloring is wonderful.
The piece appears to be in very good condition. The cameo is oval and measures 2 inches (about 50 mm) by 1 and 1/2 inches (about 40 mm).

A very unique piece with rich color and historic charm.
